How to Make the Perfect Brown Butter
The thing that takes Lucky Charms Marshmallow Rice Krispies to the next level is incorporating the most perfect brown butter. Now you may be thinking, does that mean the butter is burnt? Nope. It will have a caramelized nutty flavor that is out of this world.
A few key points to take note when trying to make perfect brown butter. Do not use a butter that is low calorie or vegan. Browning you butter will take a few more minutes in this recipe, but trust me when I say it’s worth it.
Your butter will began to melt and pop some so make sure you are stirring consistently the whole time. The butter will begin to bubble and brown a bit. It’s getting close to perfection, but don’t stop stirring. A foam will appear, the cracking sound will stop and the butter will turn an amber color with a nutty aroma. Reduce the heat and continue adding the additional ingredients as outlined in the recipe card.
Creative Versions
One of the amazing things about Lucky Charms Marshmallow Rice Krispies is they can easily be transformed to accommodate any colors, holiday or birthday themes.
This specific recipe is made to accommodate St. Patricks Day with all the greens, golds, lucky charm cereal and rainbow marshmallows mixed in at the end.
Rice Krispies cereal is a natural color so it can easily be changed colors or add any color of ingredient too. Add food coloring drops to make the Rice Krispy treats into whatever color you want, this also includes colored sprinkles. Other unique ideas to change up these treats would be to add chocolate chips or dried fruit.
Easy Recipe for your Kids to Help
This easy recipe is great to get your kids in the kitchen. As I always say, once the sprinkles come out of the cabinet, my kids come running.
Now, I wouldn’t suggest for your kids to help when you have to use the stove portion of this recipe. When it is time to mix in the Rice Krispies with the gooey marshmallows or adding any additional toppings would be a great time to have your kids to help. I would advise that the pan can still be hot, so having them be the ones dumping in your toppings would be fun. They could also help use a spatula to help compress the Krispies in to the dish.
