Elegant Party Platters

These may look like simple skewers, but you can elevate them by the decorations and even serving them on an elegant party platter. The platter itself always is the first impression as to how elegant or casual the item is that is being served. Platters can range from vintage, sleek and even kid friendly. It all depends on the theme and how large it needs to accommodate all the skewers. You can get even fancier by decorating the party platter with fresh flowers, fancy napkins, garnishes or sprinkle with powdered sugar. Having a fun platter will add to the element of your Strawberry Heart Skewers. Also being on a skewer makes it convenient for guests to help themselves to these delicious treats.

Delightful Fruit Combinations

In the arrangement for today’s post, I chose strawberries. Other great options could be bananas, blackberries, apples, and pineapples. If they are bananas, I would suggest that they are slightly green to make sure they won’t be too mushy for the skewer. I honestly feel like you can’t go wrong with any type of fruit as all would be a delightful fruit combination. Strawberries are great for Valentines day, plus they add the perfect pop of color for this dessert. If you are not really a chocolate person, you could even try swapping out the brownies for pound cake and dusting them with powdered sugar.

Ingredients:

  • Strawberries
  • Brownies
  • Marshmallows (I used heart shaped from Target in the Valentine’s section but regular Jumbo would be great too)
  • Semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • White Chocolate Chips
  • Sprinkles
  • Skewers

Fun Activities for the Children

Strawberry Heart Skewers can be so fun to put together with your children. My daughter loves to help me in the kitchen any chance she gets, especially when sprinkles are involved. Now, you may be thinking uhhh that sounds like a mess. Anytime I have my kids help with decorating sweets, I put a small amount of sprinkles in a little dish and they will pinch a few sprinkles at a time and place them on the desired dessert. Having kids do it this way will definitely help minimize the mess. Also, I’ll have the vacuum nearby because there will always be at least 1-2 wild sprinkles on the loose. This turns into a fun activity, and if you are afraid your little one is too young to use skewers, simply skip the skewer and place a strawberry, brownie and marshmallow on the side for them to decorate.

Chocolate Drizzling Techniques

I use roughly a half of a cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips and a half of a cup white chocolate chips. Place each flavor of chips in their own bowl and then place one in the microwave for 30 seconds. Stir and place back in the microwave for an additional 30 seconds. If the chips are still not melted, repeat until they are. Next you’ll want to grab a ziplock or piping bag and fill it with the melted chocolate. Snip off one of the bottom corners of the bag and zig zag the melted chocolate across each skewer and immediately cover them in sprinkles.
