Fun Colors and Toppings

With St. Patricks Day coming up, we found the pot of gold with these delicious Cookies and Cream Chocolate Bark.I separated some of the melted chocolate and added green food coloring to it to make it perfect for St. Patricks Day. I opted for Oreos to make it the a delicious cookies and cream combo and of course topped them with gold sprinkles. With a few easy swaps of fun colors and toppings, you can easily customize it to your own.

Easter is also approaching, adding M&Ms or robin eggs could be a great topping. You could also separate more chocolate into bowls and add fun colors to really get the colors of spring. If you don’t want to mess with food coloring, just pick out some cute sprinkles. I love to get mine from Walmart as they have fun colors and the sprinkles are a variety of sizes and shapes.

Tips for Melted Chocolate

As expected, the main ingredient for cookies and cream chocolate bark is chocolate. Some find it difficult to get the right consistency or even over cook it and has turned it into a crumbled mess.

If I am only needing a small amount melted, I prefer the microwave. Add the required amount of chocolate to a microwave safe glass dish and cook in 30 second increments stirring between each time just until all the chips have been melted.

When baking with a larger quantity of chocolate chips such as a recipe as this, melting them in a double broiler is the best option. Start by filling up a sauce pan with approximately 2 cups of water. In a stovetop safe dish, place it in the sauce pan with the water only barely touching the dish and no more. Add your chocolate chips to the stovetop dish and turn your burner on medium heat. Carefully stir chips until melted ensuring no water accidentally sneaks into the chocolate.

If you are finding your chocolate to be too thick or doesn’t seem smooth, try adding a teaspoon of oil and stir continuously.
